BEARLYASOUND’S TOP 100 of 2013! (10-1)

The final countdown! Welcome to Bearlyasound’s Top 10 Songs of 2013!

10. SMALLPOOLS – DREAMING

Smallpools instantly stole our hearts after the first listen and went on to do the same to the rest of the country. In just a few months they climbed the charts with the help of this insanely catchy single and securing support slots on massive tours with Two Door Cinema Club and Walk The Moon. They will continue their journey to the top in 2014.

9. VICEROY WITH CHELA – DREAM OF BOMBAY

Viceroy has been on our radar since he first launched the project in 2011 and has continued to garner popularity all over the world with his infectious grooves and summertime sentiment. This song was blasted at pool parties in every corner of the globe this past summer which is why it unsurprisingly fell in our Top 10.

8. TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB – CHANGING OF THE SEASONS

Two Door Cinema Club rocked some of the biggest venues in the world in 2013 after the release of their second full length album, Beacon. They went on to follow up that success in rare form with another hit in “Changing Of The Seasons” and a subsequent EP release to support it. They manage to capture the hard hitting dance friendly drums of electro while still maintaining the graceful guitar melodies they have become known for.

7. EMPIRE OF THE SUN – ALIVE

In 2013 Empire Of The Sun returned to the spotlight in full force because of this song. It has every characteristic of a hit single between the singalong chorus chants and pulsing top beat synth and basslines. It would have been a crime not to include this in the Top 10.

6. DALE EARNHARDT JR. JR. – DON’T TELL ME

The Detroit duo kept the hits coming in 2013 with their highly anticipated sophomore album The Speed of Things. “Don’t Tell Me” gets the #6 spot for making us feel all warm and fuzzy inside every time we listen to the chorus.

5. MAGIC MAN – PARIS

Oh Magic Man. Another example of a young band with a big presence that stormed their way into the good graces of music lovers all over the country in 2013. When we first heard “Paris”, we knew this band was destined for great things. For such a young band, they have an incredibly mature sound that we are certain will make for a huge year in 2014.

4. VAMPIRE WEEKEND – DIANE YOUNG

Fast and catchy, Diane Young was an instant hit. Vampire Weekend has once again proven themselves as one of the heavy hitters in the alternative music world. The new album showed their darker, more mature side, but still somehow stayed true to the childish charm of their previous work.

3. CHVRCHES – WE SINK

With three songs on our countdown its safe to say that we’re pretty big fans of CHVRCHES. It’s well known we’re suckers for female fronted synth-pop groups, but this Scottish trio is one of the few to break into superstardom this year. “We Sink” took them to new heights in 2013 and we expect this band to ride that momentum into 2014 and beyond. Let their position(s) in this year’s Top 100 serve as proof.

2. RAC ft. KELE & MNDR – LET GO

It should come as no surprise that this song is ranked #2. It was RAC’s follow up original track to “Hollywood” (2012’s #1 song) and was released as part of an all-original EP with the same title. “Let Go” was definitive in RAC’s new direction from remix artist to original composer and it’s absolutely safe to say that he nailed it. With help from Bloc Party’s Kele and MNDR on vocals, Andre Allen Anjos provided the musical backdrop complete with the catchy guitar licks and dance-friendly drum beats we have come to love RAC for.

1. ARCADE FIRE – AFTERLIFE

The ever mysterious Arcade Fire once again blessed the world with some more of their Canadian goodness as Reflektor was born in 2013. Be sure to check out the video of their live performance of “Afterlife” from the Youtube Music Awards with the visually stunning genius of director Spike Jonze and killer dance moves by actress Greta Gerwig.
